Think there’s nothing to be grateful for? Think again.
We’ve written about gratitude and the enormous benefits it creates so many times that by now, I’m sure you know them well.
But what can you do on the days when you feel a little ‘meh’? Lower the bar 😊 No seriously, gratitude isn’t always about finding something big and wonderful to be grateful for, in fact it very rarely is.
We should definitely appreciate the big things but practicing daily gratitude is more about developing the skill of finding the beauty, awe and appreciation in every day moments.
And often it can be as simple as taking the time to stop and notice.
So, when you think there’s nothing to be grateful for, think of this list – surely there is something on this list that you can be thankful for:
- Sunshine
- Fresh air
- A good night’s sleep
- A good book
- A warm shower
- Artwork
- Rainbows
- Butterflies
- A warm cup of tea or coffee
- Bees for helping us grow food and flowers
- A beautiful sunrise / sunset
- The way the moon and stars light up the night sky
- A great chat with a friend
- A good workout
- A funny joke
- Someone holding the door for you when your arms are full
- Your pet
- The pretty sound of a bird chirping
- A cool breeze on a warm day
- A cooling swim on a hot day
- A hug
- Your child’s smile
- The opportunity to help someone with something
- Your pillow
- Your favourite blanket
- Friday night’s
- Sunday morning’s
- A funny joke
- Finding chocolate in the pantry when you thought you were all out – that can’t just be me?
- Your favourite meal
- Spending time with a friend
- Spending time with your parents
- Family traditions
- When you laugh so hard you snort or cry
