Know what you want but don’t know how to get it?
Over recent years goal setting has become relatively common place, people have become more in tune with what they want and know that if they set goals and action plans, most realistic goals are achievable.
So, we know the key steps:
- Dream big and visualise what we want.
- Transform our dream into SMART goals.
- Break the goals down into small action steps.
Got it. But how can you determine what action steps you need to take if you don’t even know where to start?
You throw in an extra step – map out your resources!
Creating a resource map will help you understand what resources, skills etc. you have available to you that can help you achieve your goals. You can then develop your action plan starting with the resources you have rather than starting from nothing.
What is a resource map? A resource map is virtually a map of all the things, people, information, current skills, courses, books – anything you can think of – that can help you get where you want to be.
Draw out the different categories that apply to you just like you would a mind map, then fill it in with everything you can think of that can help you achieve your goal.
Add to it over a few days or weeks because the more you think about it, the more ideas you will get. After a few weeks go ahead and draw up your action plan. Remember small, actionable steps are best.
